Manila CityHall: Libreng Tawag Abroad

Manila residents can talk to relatives and friends in the United States and Canada for free this Christmas season, thanks to a project launched by the city government on Wednesday.

Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila said they launched the project as another Christmas gift to Manila residents who do not have the money to make expensive international phone calls. City officials initiated the project, in partnership with Pacific Network Inc.

Those who wish to avail of the free phone call service may go to the ground floor of the Manila City Hall, where a toll-free booth has been set up. The booth is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Lim said the free calls to the US and Canada would be offered until February 2009.

Pacific Network Marketing Director Chito San Jose said that additional toll-free booths would be put up soon, also within the Manila City Hall, depending on the number of people who wish to call abroad.
